Arm Lift

Arm lift or brachioplasty is a procedure done for tightening of the arm by removing excess skin and tissues. This is usually needed in cases where there is significant excess skin beyond the ability of skin to shrink after liposuction. Liposuction may also be combined with an arm lift. The scar may be placed on the inner side of arm or more commonly now, along the back of the arm. The scar needs to be long, as long as the extent of redundant skin. The short scar lift by a horizontal scar in the under-arm is of limited use and is only suitable in a small minority of cases.

Recovery

A compression garment may be worn on the arms for approximately two weeks.
Bruising and swelling are normal and may take several weeks to resolve.
Stiffness of the arms, especially when bending is common and usually resolves within a few months.
There may be areas of numbness, which usually resolve within a few months.
Sutures are usually internal and self-dissolving; any external stitch or staples are removed in 7-10 days
The incisions can be red and prominent for several months, treatment with silicone scar creams or tapes is recommended for 2-3 months. Scars are permanent but become less obvious with time.
Variants: in cases with milder skin sag, laser Liposuction or J plasma may encourage skin to shrink and thus avoid the need to cut it out.
